Sea shanties are floating song pages in towns and islands. Catch one and your crew learns it — they'll sing it while you sail. No gameplay bonuses, but they're the soul of Black Flag.

How to Catch Shanty Pages

  • Approach the page; it blows away along a fixed path.
  • Chase it down (rooftops, alleys, carts) and grab it before it disappears.
  • If you miss, leave the area and return — the shanty resets.
  • Pages are slightly easier to catch in Resynced than in the original — free-running is smoother and pages move a bit slower.

Chasing Tips

  1. Watch the first movement carefully. It tells you the route direction. Position yourself to intercept.
  2. Don't chase directly from behind. Cut off paths by free-running parallel routes.
  3. Leap at the end. Many pages terminate off a rooftop or cliff — an acrobatic mid-air grab looks cool and works.
  4. Sync viewpoints first. Shanties appear on the map after nearby viewpoint sync.

Why They Matter

Because sailing at sunset while your crew sings "Drunken Sailor" or "Roll, Boys, Roll" at the top of their lungs while a storm brews on the horizon is one of the best moments in video games. Don't skip them.
