Crouch Stealth Guide: Become a Shadow in the Tall Grass

Crouch changes everything. Master tall grass, whistle-lure, alarm bells, and fort infiltrations — clear entire bases without ever being seen.

Crouch is the biggest design change in Resynced. It's not just a "sneak button" — it's a complete stealth overhaul. Master it and you become a Caribbean predator.

How Crouch Actually Works

  • Movement: ~60% of walk speed, footstep noise nearly eliminated.
  • Grass invisibility: While crouched in tall grass, sugarcane, or bushes, you're effectively invisible unless an enemy walks within ~2 meters or sees you enter.
  • Cover snap: Near low walls, crates, or corners while crouched, Edward auto-snaps to cover. You can whistle-lure from cover and do corner assassinations.
  • Low assassinations: Approaching from behind while crouched triggers a quiet kill that doesn't alert nearby guards as easily as a standing assassination.
Tall sugarcane fields are Edward's natural habitat. Crouch, whistle, wait, kill, hide the body — repeat.

Important: Standing in tall grass is not enough. You must be crouched. This trips up every new player.

The Whistle-Lure Loop (Your Bread and Butter)

  1. Tag all enemies with Eagle Vision.
  2. Position yourself in tall grass near a patrol path.
  3. Whistle. One nearby enemy will break off to investigate.
  4. Let them walk to the grass edge.
  5. Assassinate from cover, hide the body in the grass.
  6. Wait 10-15 seconds for alertness to cool.
  7. Repeat.

Done patiently, you can clear an entire fort or plantation without triggering open combat. Bodies hidden in grass are never found.

Tall grass on jungle islands and plantation fields is everywhere. Use it as your highway through restricted areas.

What Will Get You Detected

  • Running, even crouched. Running creates visible movement and noise.
  • Assassinating within line of sight of another enemy, even if the kill animation is quiet.
  • Whistling multiple times quickly — draws multiple guards.
  • Letting enemies get within ~2 meters in grass. They'll start searching.
  • Day vs. night: Detection range is ~30% shorter at night and in rain. Use this.
  • Red indicator zones on minimap = direct sight, actively hunted.
Grass + whistle + patience = a dead guard with zero alarm. This works on every enemy type except brutes (they're too tall to hide from in short grass).

The Alarm Bell Trick (Memorize This)

Every fort, plantation, and restricted area has 1-3 alarm bells. If guards ring it, reinforcements spawn. Before doing anything else, free-aim shoot the bell from a distance. No bell = no reinforcements, even if you're detected. This is the single highest-impact stealth tip in the game.

Alarm bells are usually near the entrance or in the courtyard center. A single pistol shot from 50+ meters destroys them.

When Detection Happens

If you get spotted:

  1. Throw smoke at your feet immediately.
  2. Assassinate whoever is closest in the smoke.
  3. Break line of sight — run around a corner or dive into grass/hay.
  4. Stay hidden and wait for yellow search state to expire (~30 seconds).
  5. Don't try to keep killing in open combat unless you're confident.

Advanced: Double Assassinations from Grass

If two enemies chat side-by-side near grass, position yourself between them (still crouched) and trigger a double assassination. Requires precise positioning but removes two guards in one silent kill.

Air assassinations from trees, beams, and rooftops are completely silent and never alert nearby guards if there's no line of sight to the body.

Tailing Missions Are Fun Now

Veterans of the original's terrible tailing missions can relax — crouch + cover makes them genuinely enjoyable. Stay behind cover, move from bush to bush, use rooftops. You don't have to stay 50 meters away anymore; crouched behind a wall 15 meters back works fine.

Stealth in Resynced isn't Splinter Cell, but for an open-world pirate game, crouch makes non-lethal/undetected playthroughs genuinely enjoyable. Try it before you draw your blades.
