Legendary Ships: Locations and How to Beat Each One

The five legendary ships are the game's toughest encounters. Recommended setup, locations, and proven strategies to sink all five.

Legendary ships are unique super-vessels in the four corners of the Caribbean. Marked with large red ship icons on the map once you've explored nearby. Beating all five is required for 100% completion and unlocks a golden wheel and figurehead for the Jackdaw.

Recommended setup before attempting: Hull armor level 8+, elite broadsides, max mortars, heavy shot upgraded, all three officers recruited. Attempting these with a mid-tier Jackdaw = repeated drowning.

HMS Prince (Northeast — foggy waters)

Appearance: Massive black-hulled man o' war sailing through thick fog.

Strategy: Fights like a super man o' war with pinpoint broadsides and heavy mortar fire. Stay at mid-far range, mortar while circling to stay behind it. Fog causes visual drops — use minimap and mortar reticle. When it turns to broadside, be already moving away. Wear it down; finish with heavy shot at the stern.

Fog reduces visibility dramatically. You'll see the Prince's broadsides flashing before you see the ship itself.

El Impoluto (Northwest — stormy waters)

Appearance: Red-and-gold Spanish galleon surrounded by storm clouds.

Danger: It rams. Constantly. It ignores broadsides to impale you on its reinforced bow. A single ram does massive damage.

Strategy: Never stay directly in front. Keep it to your side or behind. Chain-shot its sails early to reduce ram speed. When it charges (it turns directly at you and accelerates), turn hard and broadside it as it passes. It has no rear defense — stay behind and unload heavy shot into the stern.

The Black Ship (Southeast)

Appearance: Dark, burned-looking hull with black sails.

Danger: Rear-firing heavy cannons (you can't safely sit behind it like others) and endless fire barrels.

Strategy: War of attrition. Circle at mortar range, dodge fire barrels, mortar repeatedly. Don't chase — let it come to you. When it turns for a broadside, exchange fire and reposition. Patient play wins.

The pair fight in the southwest is the hardest encounter in the game. Two legendary ships must be fought simultaneously. Bring your A-game.

Lady Black and HMS Fearless (Southwest — paired fight)

Appearance: Two frigates — one black pirate ship (Lady Black) and one white Royal Navy frigate (HMS Fearless) — that coordinate attacks.

Danger: They fight as a team. One broadsides you while the other circles behind. They don't hit like men o' war but they're fast, accurate, and there are two of them.

Strategy: Focus fire on one at a time. Take Lady Black first (more aggressive, uses rams and fire barrels). Mortars are hard to land on fast frigates — use them only when one sails straight. Mostly: chain-shot sails to slow one, circle with broadsides and heavy shot while dodging the other. If taking heavy fire, retreat to heal — ships don't regenerate health.

When a legendary ship's health drops low, you can board it just like any other ship — though the boarding crew is significantly tougher.

Reward

Each legendary ship drops 20,000R plus massive metal and rare cargo. Sinking all five unlocks the golden wheel and figurehead for the Jackdaw and unlimited bragging rights.

Good luck, Captain. These ships earned their reputation.
