Sequence Breakdown & Recommended Progression Path

When systems unlock, what to focus on each sequence, and when to tackle side content vs. main story. Sequence-by-sequence roadmap.

Wondering when you get certain upgrades, or whether to do side content before pushing the story? This sequence-by-sequence guide tells you what unlocks when and the optimal order of operations.

Sequence 1-2: Tutorial Phase

Cape Bonavista → Havana. Learn basic movement, combat, and sailing. You can't free-roam much yet. Do: Hunt animals on Cape Bonavista for the second pistol holster before leaving. Don't: Take on brigs or larger ships.

Cape Bonavista's beaches are your first open area. Spend 10 minutes hunting here before you leave — it pays off immediately.

Sequence 3: Nassau & the Pirate Republic

Nassau becomes your second hub. Blowpipe (sleep/berserk darts) unlocks. More world opens up. Do: Sync all Nassau viewpoints, start harpooning, grab sea shanties. Don't: Tackle naval forts yet.

Sequence 4: Great Inagua & Full Open World Unlock

Massive unlock. Great Inagua becomes your permanent hideout. Second hidden blade unlocks. Lucy (Shipwright) becomes available. Diving bell unlock. Kenway's Fleet unlock. Do: Recruit Lucy, upgrade Jackdaw hull to level 2-3, start diving for elite blueprints, explore Mayan stelae. This is where serious free-roaming begins.

Sequence 5-6: Tulum & the Assassins

More story opens up, Tulum area unlocks, rope dart becomes available. The Padre (Master-at-Arms) is recruitable. Do: Recruit The Padre, upgrade to dual swords (craft the second holster), start Templar Hunt missions.

Sequence 7-8: Kingston & Expanded Naval

Kingston opens as the third major city. Forts become viable to attack. Frigates and weaker men o' war are manageable with proper upgrades. Do: Capture 2-3 forts for fast-travel and income, collect more Mayan stones, complete more Templar hunts.

Sequence 9-10: Late-Game Areas

Higher-level southern/eastern islands open. Legendary ships appear on the map (if you've explored near them). Tobias (Master Gunner) becomes available late in this stretch. Do: Recruit Tobias, complete Templar armor, finish Mayan armor if you haven't, fully upgrade Jackdaw for legendary ships.

By late game, you should have most of the Caribbean revealed. Work your way around the map systematically.

Sequence 11-12: Observatory & Finale

Final two sequences are heavily story-focused and more linear than mid-game. Do: Finish remaining side content before Sequence 11 if you want. You can free-roam after story completion — nothing is missable.

Post-Story: Epilogue & Free-Roam

The new epilogue plays, then you return to the open world with all unfinished content available. Legendary ships, remaining contracts, Fleet, collectibles — all completable post-game.

After the story, the Caribbean is still yours. Nothing is missable. Sail at your own pace.

Nothing is missable. Unlike some older AC games, Black Flag Resynced lets you return to all areas and complete all side content after the story. Play at your own pace and don't stress about "wasting time" exploring.
