Dual Blades & Double Hidden Blades: When You Get Them

Every major weapon unlock — second hidden blade, dual swords, rope dart, extra pistol holsters, blowpipe darts — with exact unlock points and crafting requirements.

Edward starts with one hidden blade and a pair of swords. Here's exactly when you get every major weapon upgrade and how it changes your options.

Second Hidden Blade

Unlocked: Sequence 4, shortly after arriving at Great Inagua (story-mandated, not missable).

Enables double assassinations from stealth — cover, air, grass. Also unlocks chain assassinations (kill two enemies in rapid succession without breaking stealth). This is a massive stealth upgrade.

The second hidden blade is given to Edward during the Great Inagua sequence. Don't worry about missing it.

Dual Sword / Dual Wielding

Unlocked: Sequence 5, via crafting. You need jaguar and black jaguar pelts (found around Great Inagua and Cape Bonavista jungles) to craft the second weapon holster.

Dual-wield moveset:

  • Faster light chains (four hits instead of three).
  • A dual-heavy spin attack that hits all surrounding enemies.
  • Dual-kills when two enemies are simultaneously at low posture.

It's not a raw damage upgrade over a single heavy sword, but crowd control improves dramatically.

Dual wielding makes Edward a whirlwind in group fights — the spinning heavy attack is particularly good at clearing clustered enemies.

Rope Dart

Unlocked: Sequence 6-7 (story unlock, Templar key progression). Lets you hang enemies from branches/beams, yank them off their feet, and (on ships) pull them overboard. One of the most satisfying tools for creative stealth kills.

Extra Pistol Holsters

Crafted from animal pelts:

  • 2nd pistol: Iguana + Ocelot (Cape Bonavista, available Sequence 1)
  • 3rd pistol: Jaguar + Black Jaguar (Great Inagua jungles)
  • 4th pistol: White Jaguar + Red Howler Monkey (Isla Providencia, late-game area)

Four pistols lets you chain four quick-shots in combat before reloading — devastating against agile enemies and captains.

You don't need a special hunting quest. Jaguars spawn in jungle areas around Great Inagua — use the blowpipe with sleep darts to hunt them safely.

Hunt the second pistol in Sequence 1. Spend 10 minutes on Cape Bonavista after the prologue hunting iguanas and ocelots. Two pistols from the start of Sequence 2 is a massive early-game power spike.

Blowpipe Darts

Sleep and berserk darts unlock in Sequence 3-4 via story. Buy upgrades at general stores; pouch capacity comes from animal-pelt crafting. Berserk darts in particular are overpowered — hit an officer or brute and they'll attack their own allies, creating free chaos.

The blowpipe is silent, long-range, and berserk darts cause chaos without you having to lift a blade.

Loadout Recommendations

General play: Dual swords + four pistols + smoke bombs + berserk darts handles everything.

Stealth-focused: Keep a single sword for quieter kills; carry extra smoke and sleep darts instead of the fourth pistol.
